New Haven, Sept 9th 62

Dear Wife,

I wish to inform you of what you did not know before: we have got one of the best surgeons in the world. Not the one that examined me, but a bright little fellow that knows his biz. I went to him this morning and he gave me some medicines that made me feel better and gave me an order on the [unintelligible] to carry my knapsack for me, so you see that I shall have no load to speak of and further more he says that I can go along with him if I do not feel well enough to tend to my duties and he will take care of me.
